Established in 1998, Vinden Estate is now under the guidance of the second generation wine maker Angus Vinden. Since taking over in 2015 has maintained the original label ‘Vinden Estate’ which possess a traditional Hunter style as well as producing his offshoot label allowing a more experimental approach ‘The Vinden Headcase’; balancing tradition with innovation.
"2018 is one of the most perfect growing seasons I have seen in the Hunter and the arguably the best shiraz fruit I have ever seen in my 22 years making wine. The vintage offered the perfect balance of beautiful ripe fruit and natural acidity which sparked the notion to explore the ‘terroir’ of Somerset Vineyard and make something truely special." Angus said. "These wines in my opinion will represent the the 3 best shiraz we have ever produced. Which is saying something considering the 2017 was rated 97/100 and best in the Hunter by GT Wine Mag."
The fruit for each Shiraz was cold soaked, fermented in open concrete fermenters with wild yeast, hand plunged, basket pressed and aged in French oak for 14 months. The wines were only racked once and were aged in second use 500L Puncheons. Each wine is limited to 641 bottles and is unfined, unfiltered and gravity fed to bottle. Drink any time over the next 10+ years.
Under the guidance of Angus Vinden, Vinden Estate has been awarded as Rising Star of the Hunter Valley 2019, 5 stars & Top 10 Wineries on the rise in Australia by James Halliday, and Top 50 Winemakers in Australia – YGOW 2019.
