Peter Lauer Saar Riesling Brut Réserve Sekt 1999 - powerful Réserve sparkling wine from an outstanding Saar year!
From today's perspective, the Réserve sparkling wines from Lauer that have been presented so far were all from rather weak, acidic vintages. Not so with this sparkling wine from the excellent 1999 vintage, which today is considered to be one of the best Saar vintages of the decade alongside 1990 and 1997. The wines were unusually powerful and full-bodied, and so this Réserve sparkling wine is clearly different from its counterparts from earlier vintages: intense scent of quince, dried apricots and bitter orange marmalade with distinct smoky notes of incense, myrrh and spruce needles as well as notes of the finest forest honey and roasted hazelnuts. With an unexpectedly dense, powerful substance, super fine, silky texture, fine perlage and ripe acidity with a long, aromatic, nutty aftertaste. An outstanding food companion that can easily function as a red wine substitute!
