For years, the wines of Serafino Rivella were only known to a small group of insiders. It is a garage producer in the Montestefano Cru, which is one of Barbaresco’s best. The vineyard is directly outside of the family’s house of Teobaldo Rivella (Serafino's son) and his wife. In any given vintage, they produce 750 cases of Montestefano which are sought out by the most serious and passionate Piedmont cogni scenti.
The traditional approach has been maintained: the wine being vinified in static stainless-steel and some slavonian oak for 15-20 days using wild yeast before being matured in 20 hl old slavonian bottle for between 24-36 months (over twice as long as the legal requirement).
