Patrick Bouju
Clearly dynamic, truly talented and deeply friendly… Patrick Bouju is one of these growers we love, and whose work should be shared and discovered, with no restraint…As Patrick says “In my wines, there is grape and sweat!”, The majority of work is done manually, the vines are grassed and no synthetic products are used. In the cellar, in the heart of the village of St-Georges sur Allier, same principles, everything is vinified naturally, the main thing being to bring healthy and ripe grapes, so that the balance of the wine takes place, without unnecessary interventions . The wines are vinified and bottled without sulfites, they are free and alive…
Patrick started making wine in 2004 with 1.5 hectares of vines which has now increased to 5 hectares. The soil in Patrick's vineyard is heavily basaltic thanks to the chain of extinct volcanoes, the Puy de Dôme at its heart, which form the backbone of the region.
Patrick's vineyards are mainly planted with old gamay d'auvergne (a smaller berried, thicker skinned variety of its Beaujolais cousin), a little chardonnay and some pinot noir. Patrick produces tiny amounts of wine and we are very lucky to have some of it.
These wines are often eccentric blends but maintain a precision and personality that is distinctly Bouju!
